Invocation to the Green Man of the Ash Tree
Hail, Green Man of the Spring!
Ash tree of the seaside lowlands,
Blessed of Poseidon Earth-Shaker,
Whose daughters sprang from the blood
Of a castrated god,
Odhinn's great horse and final cross
That holds up all the Earth,
Centerpiece, centerpoint,
Center of existence,
You who will not tolerate any beneath you,
Tree of the runic staves
And the oars that dip and swing.
Tree of sea-power, wand of spirals,
Healer and rebirther,
Name of the first man on earth.
We hail you, sacred ash tree,
Green Man of the Spring,
As we see you on the distant horizon.
Chant:
I come with the storm
I come with the wind
My wind from the sea
And the greening begins.
(Each comes forward and plants a seed in the pot of soil, saying, "Hail Green Man of the
Earth!" Water is poured onto the pot, and then the rest is poured out as a libation. Ring bell and
dismiss.)
